ABOUT US
My name is Imani Vance, I am 10 years old after reading about the underground railroad, I wanted to make a documentary film about a young girl and what it must have been like to live, survive and try to find your freedom through the underground railroad. My Documentary is entitled "Moni Story" the Underground railroad through the Eyes of a Child. I have save my allowance to help production. Thank you. |
Meet the family
Meet Imani,
I am in the 5th grade, I like creating jewelry, drawing, singing, reading and photography.
I have attended many events with my family and I photographed Mrs. Hilary Clinton, I as met Quintavious Johnson, one of the finalists of America got talent 2014. I also enjoy watching movies with my family and each weekend we take bike trips. I plan on making other documentaries about things I find interesting and may help other children and families.
Meet the father,
It inspires me to see the seriousness Imani has put in her journey to complete her Documentary of The Underground Railroad. When she first talked to me about it I did not know how serious she was until she ask me how hard it must have been to live and try to get to freedom in the time of slavery.
I explain to her the challenges of making a documentary the time and expenses to do a documentary and she said let’s get started. Her brothers and sister said they wanted to help, so her journey began. One of the surprises I got was when she explained she wanted a professional documentary and not made with home cameras, because she would like to win a film festival, so we started her a GoFundMe account and explained to her what she needed and what and how her documentary would began. We ask several companies what equipment price range would complete her project. We also calculated the expense of the production crew and travel. Imani has met many celebrities, professors and people of all walks of life, some she never thought she would meet, I explained to her that is the power of the camera.
I would like to thank all the people that have shown their support to my daughters dream.
Her Father
Ernesto Vance
Being the mother of Imani,
I have watched her spending most of her life painting, making jewelry, designing cupcakes and singing. She also has a love of photography and now she wants to tell her story. As a graphic designer I have taught Imani many computer programs and she learns quickly, she loves to be on the honor roll and show off her good grades.
Now I see her not only as my daughter but a young filmmaker, there are many children that cannot get the opportunity to make a film, I hope Moni Story will be an inspiration to them all.
